A couple of weeks ago I wrote an article trying to understand the disconect between the film Drive’s audience and the large amount of critics who’ve praised it. Essentially it boils down to marketting. The actual film is quite subdued and artistic, moving from relative calm in the first two act into all out headstomping chaos in the third. However, the movie wasn’t promoted as such. Through the trailer, and various other promotional material one could be lead to believe that Drive is a film similar the Fast and Furious series, or any of the Jason Statham vehicles if you knew absolutely nothing else about the movie. Sarah Deming of Keego Harbour, Michigan was one of those people, but she’s decided to get the law involved.
Instead of complaining about the movie on the internet, or demanding a refund from the theater in which she saw it, she’s decided that the people responsible for the film deserve to be punished for their crimes against humanity. “How dare they make me watch a film that challenges my preconceived notions of cinema and enriches my miserable existence” she wasn’t quoted as saying. Furthermore, Deming and her lawyer, also claim that the time that Drive didn’t spend focusing on cheesy action beats, explosions, and shirtless Ryan Goslings is spent focusing on “extreme gratuitous defamatory dehumanizing racism directed against members of the Jewish faith.”
I don’t think I really need to point out how stupid this is. I mean I certainly don’t blame her for being confused about the movie she was going to see, because the marketting material for it was truly awful, but suing the films distribution company and the theater chain in which you saw it is idiocy of the highest level.

For real. I find it hilarious how entitled people are sometimes. I mean even if Drive was everything she says it is, even if it was the worst two hours ever put on the big screen, so what? Ill never be able to understand why people think artists, even if they don’t think of them of artists, owe the people who consume their art anything.
If she manages to actually sue them, she’d be the most intelligent stupid person ever!
